Stay at Home and Read a Book Ball Contest Official Contest Rules
- Contest is open to those 19 years of age and over as of Tuesday November 29, 2016, who are residents of British Columbia only, except employees and their families of Friends of the Vancouver Public Library. No purchase is necessary.
- Contest runs from 12:00:01 AM PT on Tuesday November 29, 2016 to 5 pm Pacific Time (“PT”) on Tuesday January 31, 2017 (the “Contest Period”). To be eligible, entries must be received by Friends of the Vancouver Public Library no later than 5 pm PT, Tuesday January 31, 2017. The winner will be determined by random draw on or about February 10, 2017. Prize package must be accepted as awarded; no cash or substitutions are available. The approximate value of the prize is $100 CAD (one hundred dollars CAD). Odds of winning depend on the number of valid entries received during the Contest Period. The Prize is not transferable.
- There are two (2) ways to enter:
- Make a donation to Friends of the Vancouver Public Library during the Contest Period; OR
- Legibly print your name, address and telephone number on a plain piece of paper and mail it to:

Mail-in entries must be received by Tuesday January 31, 2017 at 5 pm PT. Limit: One (1) entry per person regardless of method of entry. Duplication of a mail-in entry may result in disqualification.
- Friends of the Vancouver Public Libraryis not responsible for any entries that are lost, damaged, illegible, misdirected, postage due or undelivered. This includes lost or corrupted entries by donations made online.
- There is one (1) prize available to be won (the “Prize”). The Prize consists of one each of the recommended books: The Inconvenient Indian: A Curious Account of Native People in North America by Thomas King, One or the Other by John McFetridge, Light Years: Memoir of A Modern Lighthouse Keeper by Caroline Woodward, and The Wonder by Emma Donoghue
- Winner is responsible for all costs and expenses not specifically described as included in the Prize, including shipping costs.
- The Prize cannot be substituted, whether in cash or otherwise, except at Friends of the Vancouver Public Library’s sole discretion. Friends of the Vancouver Public Library shall have the right to alter or substitute the whole or any component of the Prize with a prize of equal or greater monetary value. In the event that a confirmed winner declines or forfeits the Prize, Friends of the Vancouver Public Library may select an alternate entrant. If it is not reasonably possible to award the Prize to an alternate prior to scheduled departure, the Prize may be forfeited.
- Friends of the Vancouver Public Library will select the winning entry on or aboutFebruary 10, 2017. Friends of the Vancouver Public Library will contact the winner by telephone in order to award the Prize. In order to be eligible to receive the Prize:
The winner must be reached by telephone within seven (7) days immediately following the selection of the winning entry.
Prior to winning, winner must answer a time-limited mathematical skill-testing question.
Winner will be required to sign, have witnessed, and return to Friends of the Vancouver Public Library a declaration and release affirming compliance with these Official Contest Rules and releasing Friends of the Vancouver Public Library from liability with respect to the Contest and the Prize. - If any one of the above conditions in awarding the Prize is not met, the selected entrant will be disqualified and shall not be entitled to receive the Prize. Friends of the Vancouver Public Library reserves the right select at random another eligible entrant as a potential Prize winner.
- The personal information you provide to us is used solely to process your donations, maintain a record of contributions, administer the Contest, and keep you informed about Friends of the Vancouver Public Library’s programs and fundraising initiatives. You may unsubscribe from these communications at any time. Friends of the Vancouver Public Library does not sell, trade, or rent your personal information. - By accepting the Prize, to the full extent permitted by law, winner agrees to Friends of the Vancouver Public Library’s use of his/her name, city/province of residence, picture, biographical information, statements, voice and likeness in any advertising and publicity Friends of the Vancouver Public Library may conduct relating to the Contest. The winner may be required to sign a document to this effect.
- Individuals making donations may request that they be excluded from eligible Contest entries by phone, email or in writing.
- By entering this Contest, the entrant releases Friends of the Vancouver Public Library and its respective officers, directors, employees, representatives and agents, their advertising agencies, suppliers of Contest materials, Contest organizers and their respective agents, parent companies, subsidiaries and affiliates from any and all claims, liability, losses or damages, costs or expenses of any kind whatsoever which arise out of or result from the entrant’s participation in the Contest and/or in connection with the acceptance and/or exercise of the entrant of the Prize awarded in this Contest and waives all rights to any recourse in this respect.
- General Conditions: All entries become the property of Friends of the Vancouver Public Library. By participating in the Contest, each entrant agrees that Friends of the Vancouver Public Library has not made any warranty, representation or guarantee with respect to the Prize. Mass entries, automated entries, entries submitted by third parties, and any entries or prize claims that are late, incomplete, fraudulent, illegible, unidentified or delayed will be void. Contest is subject to all applicable federal, provincial and municipal laws. Void where prohibited. The invalidity or unenforceability of any provision of rules shall not affect the validity or enforceability of any other provision. Should a winner make any false statement(s) in any document referenced above, the winner may be required to promptly return to Friends of the Vancouver Public Library his/her prize, or the cash value thereof. In the event of a dispute as to the identity of the person who submitted any entry online, the authorized account holder of the email address submitted at the time of entry will be deemed to be the entrant. The potential winner may be required to show proof of being the authorized account holder.
